On Wednesday, everyone at the Yonkers Department of Public Works had snow on their minds.
In preparation for whatever mother nature has in store for us this winter, a parade of plows took to the streets of New York’s third-largest city.
Prior to the first snowfall, drivers checked their tracks and even spread some salt to make sure everything was in working order.
“Don’t be alarmed if you see some salt on the sidewalk. No snow is falling in our area. Today just sees rain. It’s only a practice run, ” explained John Naughton, manager of the DPW.
We have been looking for low-hanging wires and trees since last winter in order to make everything set for when it does come down, according to Public Workers Commissioner Tom Meier.
With more than 400 cul-de-sacs and dead-end streets, Yonkers presents the most difficult snow removal challenges in Westchester.
