Flooding From Ida Causes Mudslides In Yonkers – Gov Offers Aid

In Yonkers, deadly mudslides that were sparked by the storm’s repercussions from Hurricane Ida’s remnants ripped away backyards.

Residents of Warburton Avenue are evaluating the incredible devastation Ida caused.

“Nothing like this has ever been seen before. We are all devastated by this”

Annie Canty, local resident

Canty claims that a significant piece of her garden was wiped away while she was inside her house.

You could notice the water flowing through and down the street, she continued.

Back deck pieces, patio furniture, and even vehicles were all swept away when the soggy earth caused mudslides.

The Metro-North track was covered in dirt and debris, forcing the suspension of the Hudson Line.

Gov. Kathy Hochul arrived in the region earlier on Friday and promised assistance.

“What happens today, tomorrow, and the day after that is the subject of this. That is the pledge I’ve made to you,” Hochul remarked.

Cleaning up went on in Glendale, Queens, in the interim. The entire day was spent clearing piles of trash with Ashley Valentine’s neighbours.

We had the good fortune to just pack up and go, but I know many older families here who lack the same means of escape or evacuation plans that we do,” she added.

John Scrivani, the commissioner of the Office of Emergency Management, advises developing a strategy for your family’s escape from a crisis right now.

First of all, if you are required to leave your house, where are you going to go? Next, what should you bring? he asked. “Plan, acquire materials, and keep yourself updated.”

A well-thought-out escape plan may even spell the life or death distinction.
