Yonkers Softball Tournament Commemorating Gun Violence Victim Features 20 Teams

Many in Yonkers gathered to remember a victim of gun violence on Saturday July 24th.

Twenty teams, comprised of law enforcement, fire fighters, and community members competed in a softball competition at Cook Field near the Dunwoodie Golf Course in Yonkers.

The event was held in honor of Michael Nolan, a 23-year-old star athlete from Saunders High School who was shot and killed in a drive-by shooting in 2015.

The funds raised go to a charity established in his honor that aids neighborhood schoolchildren.

James Nolan, Michael’s brother, stated, “Knowing that everyone’s here to have a great time, have fun, get out of the home, and be here for my brother, that’s what is extremely important to me.”

Coach John Zamora stated, “You have to come because he was simply that sort of person, he would do everything for you anytime you needed something.”

Since the COVID epidemic began, this is Yonkers’ first such event, and organizers insist safety measures were taken.
