The Yonkers Hall of Fame Honors a Late, Cherished High School Coach

James Joyce Sr. was inducted into the Yonkers Sports Hall of Fame on Saturday, December 10. Mayor Mike Spano and representatives from the Department of Parks, Recreation, and Conservation were in attendance to honor the late coach.

A Yonkers-native, coach Joyce spent several years coaching track and field, girls softball, varsity baseball and basketball while working as an administrator at Lincoln High School.

The Yonkers Sports Hall of Fame honors those who have significantly contributed to sports in the city. “Our Sports Hall of Fame is a memorable way of honoring past and present residents who have enhanced Yonkers through their athletic accomplishments,” said Mayor Spano. The Yonkers Department of Parks, Recreation & Conservation inducts the chosen individuals with their names etched onto plaques which hang in their offices.

Coach Joyce’s family, including his son and grandson, collected the honor on his behalf after his death in June 2022.
