Lansdowne Yonkers Football Club lose 2-1 to NY Greek Americans

Lansdowne Yonkers lose 2-1 to the NY Greek Americans at the Greeks’ new home in Carle Place. The two sides had a scrappy first half, trading penalties between Karim Russell and Kyle Galloway within seconds of each other. Yonkers’ high tempo passing but failure to go ahead in goals allowed the Greek Americans to organize their high line of play, allowing for the perfect break opportunity in which Karim Russell set himself up for the perfect play to score the winner for the Greek Americans. This is Lansdowne’s first loss of the regular season, and snaps their 6 game winning streak that went back to December. Lansdowne Yonkers gave up ground to the NY Pancyprian Freedoms who defeated Doxa 6-0 in New Rochelle later that night. That means Yonkers may have to win all of their 5 remaining games in order to win the conference, including their May 2nd home match against the Pancyprians. The bhoys return home to Tibbetts Brook Park this Saturday at 8 PM, hosting Hoboken FC 1912, the oldest continuously operating soccer club in America.
