The Yonkers Bicycle Club has announced the eagerly awaited return of the Tour De Yonkers taking place on Sunday morning, October 1st, 2023. Marking its 14th year, this iconic event promises to be a thrilling experience for cyclists of all levels.
The Tour De Yonkers is a beloved group bicycle ride; winding its way through the charming City of Yonkers and the scenic landscapes of Westchester County. Recognized as the second-largest sporting event on Yonkers’ calendar, trailing only behind the Yonkers Marathon. Last year’s Tour attracted an impressive turnout of over 400 riders.
An event for all riders
One of the unique features of the Tour De Yonkers is that it’s an untimed event. This makes it perfect for both seasoned cyclists and newcomers alike. Furthermore, this inclusive event welcomes all riders over the age of 18 who can comfortably handle a 12-mile journey. Riders aged 16 and 17-year-olds may ride alongside a parent.
Participants can choose from three distinct routes or varying length. Routes of 12, 25, or 50 miles each offering its own set of challenges and scenic vistas. As the mileage increases, so do the elevation gains, providing cyclists with an exhilarating physical challenge. The routes encompass a mix of share-the-road streets and picturesque park trails. And for those embarking on the longer journey, a thrilling ride along the closed-to-traffic Bronx River Parkway. To ensure everyone’s safety, a police escort will guide the riders for the initial miles.
The Tour will kick off at the Beczak Environmental Center at 35 Alexander Street in Yonkers. This location nestled along the Hudson River promises a stunning backdrop for the event’s start and finish.
