Ruth Walter Earns Unanimous Endorsement of Yonkers Democratic Committee in Bid to Take Back County Legislative Seat, Becomes Sole Democrat in Race to Unseat Jimmy Nolan

Official Press Release from Ruth Walter

Former County Legislator Ruth Walter earned the unanimous endorsement of the Yonkers Democratic Committee last night. Yonkers makes up a majority of the newly redrawn 15th County Legislative District in Westchester.

This endorsement is a reflection of the work I have done as a County Legislator by the people who know me best, the hard-working Democratic District Leaders of Westchester and I am grateful for the support of Yonkers Democrats,” said Ruth Walter. “We need to be united going into the general election to ensure that Democrats have the best chance to win back this seat and our communities can have real representation to deliver results.

Democratic opponent Mark Fang has withdrawn from the race, leaving Ruth Walter the sole Democrat to take on incumbent Jimmy Nolan in the November election.

Ruth Walter grew up in Westchester as the youngest of eight children. As the daughter of a political speech writer and a teacher, the importance of public service and community involvement were instilled in her at a young age. After graduating college, Ruth began her career as an investment analyst for a multinational investment firm. She went on to coordinate technology operations for several companies, including leading Y2K digital readiness operations for a regional department store chain, and creating the digital systems and employee training as a local shop owner.

Ruth and her husband run Dobbs & Bishop Fine Cheese, a mom-and-pop shop that is a vibrant part of the Bronxville community and continues to thrive in the challenging retail environment. Over the past eleven years, the shop has employed more than 100 people from neighboring communities and contributed more than $6 million in economic activity.

Ruth serves as the Chair of the Westchester County Cybersecurity Task Force, and has previously served or currently serves on the Boards of Groundwork Hudson Valley, Foundation for Yonkers Public Library and Bronx River Parkway Reservation Conservancy and Bronxville Rotary and Aquehung, the Yonkers Women’s Democratic Club.
