Nader Sayegh Announces the “STOP RUSSIAN AGGRESSION ACT”

Elijah Reichlin-Melnick (D-Rockland/Westchester) and Yonkers Assemblyman Nader Sayegh rallied support for the “Stop Russian Aggression Act,” legislation they have sponsored, at a press conference held at the Ukrainian Youth Center in Yonkers.

The legislation I’m sponsoring in the Assembly will prevent any corporation doing business in Russia from receiving contracts from the state of New York in retaliation to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine. The measure also directs the New York State Comptroller to start the process of removing any investments in Russian-focused businesses from the state retirement system pension fund, according to Sayegh.

The aggressive and unlawful invasion of Ukraine by Russia, according to Senator Reichlin-Melnick, requires the greatest possible retaliation. New York State does not support or invest in businesses that conduct business in North Korea or Iran, and Vladimir Putin’s rash actions have now aligned Russia with these despotic states.

The “Stop Russian Aggression Act” is already gaining support from other Assembly members, and during the news conference, Senator Shelley Mayer projected that the bill will pass.
