Yonkers Unveils Memorial Flagpole to Honor Detective Sullivan

The City of Yonkers paid tribute to the late Detective William J. Sullivan, Jr., a dedicated member of the Yonkers Police Department who succumbed to complications of COVID-19 in 2020. In a ceremony on October 4th at Westchester Hills School 29, the City unveiled a flagpole in Detective Sullivan’s honor. This was a fitting memorial given that his daughter, Jacqueline, is a teacher at the school.

Mayor Mike Spano expressed gratitude for Detective Sullivan’s 25 years of service, remembering him as a family man and friend. “Detective William Sullivan, Jr. was a dedicated and respected member of the Yonkers Police Department,” said Mayor Spano.

He served our city with honor and courage for 25 years, and he was a friend to many of us. He will always be remembered as a hero and a family man. My thoughts and prayers are with his wife, children, and the entire Yonkers Police family. We will never forget his sacrifice.

The flagpole dedication ceremony was a heartfelt acknowledgment of Sullivan’s sacrifice and commitment to serving the Yonkers community.
