Yonkers Ranks 9th in WalletHub’s Best Cities for Women

In WalletHub‘s latest rankings of the best and worst cities for women, Yonkers has placed an impressive 9th.

The Rankings

The comprehensive assessment analyzed 182 cities across the United States. Its aim was to identify the most best environments for women’s success and overall quality of life. Yonkers’ impressive ranking puts it in the top 5% of cities surveyed.

Topping the list was Columbia, Maryland, claiming the coveted No. 1 spot for providing an environment that fosters women’s prosperity. South Burlington, Vermont, closely followed at No. 2. Meanwhile, some larger cities like New York City found themselves in the middle of the pack, ranking at No. 56. Last on the list was Jackson, Mississippi.

The study assessed these cities using 15 critical indicators of living standards for women. These included median earnings for female workers, the quality of women’s hospitals, and even suicide rates among women.

However, the study also highlighted some concerning national trends. Only 22 out of 250 metro areas in the United States reported women under 30 earning the same amount as or more than their male counterparts, shedding light on the persistent gender pay gap issue. On average, women continue to earn approximately 82 cents for every dollar earned by men.

The WalletHub rankings serve as a valuable tool for women seeking to identify cities that offer the most promising environments for their personal and professional growth. Yonkers’ strong showing in these rankings is not only a source of pride for its residents but also a testament to the city’s commitment to gender equity and inclusivity.
