Yonkers Police Benevolent Association Roll Out Cops & Community Mobile Canteen Truck

The Yonkers PBA has expanded its reach with the recent unveiling of a one-of-a-kind, mobile canteen truck. This versatile truck will play a key role in assisting in events from parades and school catering, to major accidents and natural disasters.

Inspired by community

This idea first came to fruition after the loss of Sgt. Frank Gualdino in December of 2022. As first responders showed up with their own canteens to provide refreshments at the funeral, the Yonkers PBA saw an opportunity. This profound gesture of solidarity therefore inspired the desire for a multifunctional truck. This “help on wheels” could therefore better aid the community for a variety of reasons. For example, the Yonkers PBA has been known for its summer BBQ events for those with special needs. So, from funeral services to BBQ events, the mobile canteen could provide necessary support.

Due to its adaptable functionality, the canteen truck can serve as a supply moving truck, ice cream truck, or food service truck. This offers a wide range of capabilities to meet the needs of different events. Its resourcefulness allows it to function in all three capacities simultaneously or individually, allowing the ability to fulfill specific requirements for each unique event.

Cops & Community

The Yonkers PBA Cops & Community Initiative’s main focuses are spreading happiness and fostering positive interactions with the city. It promises to create memorable moments and strengthen bonds, thus fostering long-lasting relationships.

This imaginative program will have the mobile canteen visiting different locations throughout the summer across Yonkers, surprising children with hot dogs and ice cream on sunny afternoons.

The sheer joy that fills the air when an ice cream truck arrives is incomparable, now when it’s the police officers themselves delivering these goodies for free, adding an extra layer of excitement and connection to the experience.

If you see this new canteen truck driving around the city this summer, be sure to stop and enjoy this generous and community-building initiative.
