Yonkers Man Sentenced to 10 Years in Prison After School Street Shooting

Jaquan Henderson was sentenced on April 20th, 2023 to ten years in prison related to a shooting incident that occurred on School Street in Yonkers on July 16th, 2022.

In a press release by Westchester District Attorney Mimi Rocah, she describes the horror of the crimes.

This defendant unleashed a torrent of gunfire on a crowd of people enjoying a summer night last year, and terrorized a community that had endured another shooting just hours before, and multiple other shootings earlier that week. We are thankful that a dangerous gunman has been removed from our streets and justice has been served

On July 16, 2022, Henderson, 23, began firing a 9mm gun into a crowd of people on School Street at approximately 10:45pm. Three victims here hit by the 11 rounds of gunfire. They were all transported to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla to recover from their non-life threatening injuries.

Henderson then fled New York to Lithonia, Georgia. There, the FBI along with the Yonkers Police Department and other law enforcement agencies arrested Henderson on August 3, 2022. He was held in detention without bail while awaiting trial. Henderson pleaded guilty to Assault in the First Degree on March 2nd before Westchester County Court. Judge Fufidio of this court delivered the sentence of 10 years in state prison.
