Thank You to Our Readers, Donors, and Contributors for an Amazing First Anniversary Party

On Thursday, February 22, 2024, community members from all across Yonkers celebrated the first anniversary of the city’s only independent non-profit news organization, The Yonkers Ledger.

Founded upon editorial principles derived from the SPJ Code of Ethics and The Trust Project, for the past year we here at The Ledger have been committed to covering all of the stories that matter to the people of Yonkers. From cultural community events to government oversight, or goal of providing unbiased and unbought news remains our guiding principle.

To celebrate our recognition as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, 63 residents purchased tickets to support our local news mission. The evening was a massive success as the diverse group of news-lovers mingled with old friends and met new ones in the remarkable Yonkers Arts space on Lake Avenue. Through food, music, and other refreshments, this collection of neighbors discussed their passion for local news in the face of an industry in peril. But, with such a strong base of support, we are confident that The Yonkers Ledger will persist for many more years to come.

In further recognition of our friends, we would like to thank the generous contributions from Yonkers Arts, SnapStop, DJ Spikedee, The Yonkers Brewing Company, and Greyston Bakery.

As we reflect on the past year and look ahead to the future, let us remember the power of community and the difference we can make when we come together with a common purpose.
