Port Chester Man Indicted for Attempted Murder in Yonkers Shooting of NYPD Officer

The Westchester County District Attorney Mimi Rocah announced on Jan. 4 that Bryan Martinez has been indicted on charges of attempted murder. These charges stem from a shooting in Yonkers that occurred in November 2023. The victim was identified as an off-duty officer of the New York Police Department.

The shooting

The incident unfolded the late morning of November 14, 2023, near the Saw Mill River Parkway and Tompkins Avenue. Martinez allegedly used a 9mm pistol to fire approximately 13 rounds at the victim, striking him once in the arm. The victim, identified as someone acquainted with the defendant, managed to drive himself to St. John’s Hospital in Yonkers. There, he received treatment for his injuries.

The Yonkers Police Department apprehended Bryan Martinez in Port Chester on November 16, 2023. The arrest followed a comprehensive investigation involving the collaborative efforts of the Yonkers Police Department, Westchester County Department of Public Safety, Westchester County Real-Time Crime Center, Port Chester Police Department, and the FBI’s Westchester Safe Streets Task Force.

A grand jury in Westchester County has indicted 30-year old Port Chester resident on multiple felony counts. These include the following:

  • Attempted Murder in the Second Degree
  • Attempted Assault in the First Degree
  • Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree
  • Assault in the Second Degree
  • Reckless Endangerment in the First Degree

The arraignment of Martinez occurred today, Jan 4., before Judge George Fufidio in Westchester County Court. The court set bail at $500,000 cash, $750,000 bond, and $1 million partially secured bond.

We will not tolerate this kind of senseless gun violence in Westchester, and will seek to hold this defendant accountable.
