NYPD Officer from Yonkers Sues Department Over Sharing of Topless Image

Alisa Bajraktarevic, a 34-year-old NYPD officer and resident of Yonkers, brought a lawsuit against the department claiming her career has been derailed after a topless image of her was circulated among fellow officers. This move comes after a tumultuous history with the force. Most recently an incident including a suspension for interfering in a traffic stop involving her alleged drug dealer boyfriend.

Bajraktarevic’s lawsuit details how she sent the revealing photo to Lt. Mark Rivera, whom she briefly dated in 2012. According to her claims, Rivera shared the image in a group text with other officers, leading to its widespread dissemination. Despite feeling violated, Bajraktarevic alleges that union delegates discouraged her from filing a complaint, citing similar instances affecting other women.

The controversy resurfaced when Bajraktarevic was accused of interfering with police while with her boyfriend, Kelvin Hernandez, in the Bronx. Amidst the ensuing investigation and her suspension, the topless photo circulated once more, along with personal information, exacerbating her distress.

In an emotional statement to The New York Post, Bajraktarevic condemned the treatment she endured. She labeled it as bullying and expressed concern over potential harm to herself or others. She emphasized the need for accountability within the force, highlighting the disregard for her privacy and dignity.

The lawsuit filed in Manhattan Supreme Court targets not only the City but also specific individuals within the Department. Specifically, Lt. Mark Rivera and another supervisor accused of sexual harassment. Bajraktarevic’s attorney, John Scola, characterizes the incident as an “illegal invasion of privacy.” He further criticizes the NYPD’s handling of the matter, citing a failure to investigate those responsible for sharing the image.

In response, the city’s Law Department has pledged to review the claims in the lawsuit. The NYPD also reiterates its commitment to fostering respectful work environments and condemns discrimination and harassment in any form.

Despite her suspension and subsequent legal battles, Bajraktarevic remains committed to serving as a police officer. However, she underscores the toxic culture within law enforcement, urging her colleagues to recognize the harm caused by their actions.
