Marilyn Cotto Montanez Was Shot Dead By a Stray Bullet in 2019; Yonkers Shooter Gets Jail Time

A high school teenage girl in Yonkers was killed by a stray bullet from the gun held by a 17-year-old who admitted to second-degree murder on Friday.

In April 2019, Jamir Thompson was charged with discharging a firearm at another person.

Marilyn Cotto Montanez, 18, died after being struck in the head by a bullet.

Cotto Montanez and her sister, who was nine, were strolling down Morningside Avenue when the incident unfolded.

In September, Thompson will return to court for sentencing after turning himself into police roughly two weeks after the incident.
