Landslide in Yonkers Causes Havoc for Transportation

The landslide affected Warburton Avenue, Yonkers. A parking lot was eroded, and a portion of the rear of that parking lot was along the way while a few vehicles went down the hill.

This spot and two other very distinct spots in Yonkers moved mud and debris down onto the Metro North rail tracks. As a result, the Hudson line was suspended, with no service getting through the Hudson line. This cessation of service happened because of these issues on the tracks. Immediately crews were out and cleared the debris off of the tracks. They also inspected the tracks to ensure they were in good working order.

However, cars were stranded by the side streets in the area and even over onto the sawmill river parkway. Suspended trains were also not running through the area. As it was mentioned, there were three distinct areas that we saw where the ground came down and washed across the tracks.

The crews had to inspect tracks to ensure everything was in good working order.

In summary, Warburton Avenue in Yonkers had three places where the ground eroded, washing down to the Metro North tracks. It was a sad moment when the parking lot and some vehicles went down the hill destructively.
