Groundwork Hudson Valley Secures Major Funding from KeyBank for Youth Sustainability Programs

On Monday February 12, Groundwork Hudson Valley (GWHV) together with KeyBank announced a new $100,000 grant partnership. The grant encompasses two years of support for GWHV’s Youth Leadership and Sustainability Education programs.

A green mission

Groundwork Hudson Valley plays a visible role in advancing community involvement through improving the environment. And it’s been doing so since its founding in 2000. GWHV focuses on contemporary themes such as personal community engagement, environmental conservation, and economic growth. And they are responsible for such well-regarded projects like the Science Barge and the daylighting of the Sawmill River.

The organization also provides support for youth development and leadership through several programs. This notably includes its award-winning Green Team, which creates work opportunities in the environmental conservation industry. Further supporting its youth mission, GWHV recently secured funding to design of a pioneering high school-to-career program in the field of urban forestry.

KeyBank funding the future

The KeyBank Foundation’s $100,000 grant, which is part of a larger $40 billion plan aimed at investing in various communities with a focus on equity and economic advancement, will have a noteworthy impact on the work that GWHV is able to do in the greater Yonkers area in the coming years. John Manginelli, KeyBank’s Market President, remarked on the company’s support of GWHV.

The work that Groundwork is doing with the Yonkers Public School System is impressive and offers a strong model for creating environmental stewardship opportunities for underserved youth throughout the Hudson Valley and across our country. Bringing sustainability education to elementary schoolers and creating conservation jobs for teens not only benefits our youth but helps create a ripple effect for real environmental change in our neighborhoods. KeyBank is proud to support their educational program expansion.

KeyBank hopes to facilitate a number of different causes, including development of workforce skills, green-initiatives, education, and the safety and culture of local communities, with emphasis on personal equity.

Oded Holzinger, Groundwork Hudson Valley’s Executive Director, thanked its most recent funder and reiterated his organization’s mission of educating youth on environmental stewardship.

We at Groundwork Hudson Valley are immensely grateful for partners like KeyBank who are committed to creating positive and lasting change and who provide resources to organizations like ours to propel our mission forward for Yonkers youth. This partnership with the KeyBank Foundation exemplifies how we can come together to lay the groundwork and empower our youth to have the knowledge and skills to become the environmental leaders of tomorrow.
