Community Celebrates at the Eighth Annual MPAC Awards

The Eight Annual Awards ceremony hosted by the Mediterranean People & Communities (MPAC) organization was held at the Westchester Manor on Thursday April 27th.

This year’s event was a testament to how MPAC is committed to working with government, labor, and private businesses that serve our community. For many years, the actions of MPAC prove that they are here for the community–always.

Attendees

In attendance at the awards ceremony were many current and potential elected officials like Yonkers City Council members and mayoral hopefuls, Corazón Pineda-Issac and Anthony Merante. Facing off against the incumbent mayor and Pineda-Isaac was also Margaret Fountain-Coleman. In addition to candidates for Mayor, current Westchester County legislators Christopher Johnson, James Nolan, and David Tubiolo were also at the event. Political newcomer and challenger to Mike Breen for the fifth district in Yonkers City Council was Ron Schutte. And, there were even some New York Supreme Court Judge candidates like Charley Wood and Fran Connolly there to celebrate the achievements of our award recipients.

Award Recipients

The Honorees at this event by MPAC were the grouped into four categories. For the MPAC Government Award, Westchester County Executive George Latimer and New York State Senator Shelley Mayer earned this year’s honor. Karen Pecora, Past President of CSEA Unit 9200 and Manuel Molina of 32BJ SEIU were presented the MPAC Labor Award by Labor veteran Barry McGoey. The Community Service award went to the Director of the Brother2Brother, John Morrison. And lastly, the Sal & Jamal Brothers of Chestnut Markets received the Business of the Year award.
