Max Guttman, a colorful individual with roles spanning from licensed mental health therapist to disability rights advocate, has cultivated his home in the heart of Yonkers. Eight years ago, Max made a conscious decision to call Yonkers his home. His affinity for the hilly neighborhoods and vibrant community led him to settle in the Bronx River Road neighborhood. His current 800 square foot one-bedroom abode serves as a canvas for his creativity and a sanctuary for his soul.

For Max, the transition from a 400-square-foot apartment to his current spacious dwelling was transformative. The extra space not only provided room for his belongings but also became a catalyst for his mental well-being. It’s a space where he can breathe, think, and embrace the chapters of his life with newfound clarity and purpose.

Location, location, location

Paying $2000/month plus utilities, Max sees his apartment not just as his residence, but also an investment in his happiness. His love for the southeast Yonkers community area is palpable. He describes it as both affordable and safe—a haven where diversity thrives, and connections are forged.

The community is diverse and friendly. Everyone knows each other enough to feel safe, but not enough to feel like people are nosy.

One of Max’s favorite aspects of his apartment is the living room. It offers a picturesque view of the Metro North train—a sight that symbolizes both connectivity and mobility, two themes deeply intertwined with his advocacy work and personal journey. “[It’s] one of my favorite highlights about living within walking distance from Mount Vernon West station,” said Guttman.

Despite his affection for his living space, Max admits to a minor quibble. This is the absence of a small hallway between the living room and bedroom. However, this small imperfection does little to diminish his overall appreciation for his eclectic, modern, and avant-garde decor. A style which reflects his vibrant personality and eclectic tastes.

Forever home

As Max envisions his future, he sees himself rooted in this space for the long haul—perhaps until he moves into an even larger apartment within the same building. For him, this apartment is not just a place to reside but a testament to his resilience, growth, and unwavering commitment to the Bronx River Road community.

Max Guttman’s apartment has the power of space to inspire, uplift, and transform him. It’s more than just an apartment; it’s a reflection of a life dedicated to advocacy, creativity, and love for community. And to him, it’s a space that beckons to be shared and celebrated by all who encounter it.

I love this community and its residents and see a bright future.
