Children in Yonkers who require immunizations before the start of the new school year can receive them for free at local health facilities.
After New York State banned religious exemptions from immunizations statewide earlier this year, Westchester County is now providing free vaccinations. Anyone aged 12 months and older can receive the MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella) vaccination.
Students attending public and private schools now have 14 days starting on the first day of classes to produce documentation of their vaccinations.
Additional times and places are:
- Sept. 3 from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm in Yonkers.
- Saturday, September 7, 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in Yonkers.
- White Plains on September 10 from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.
The majority of private health insurance policies pay for recommended vaccinations. Inquire with your insurance company about your coverage and the locations where you and your kids may receive vaccinations.
For people without health insurance that covers the cost of immunizations, the Westchester County Department of Health offers free vaccine clinics. There are several adult vaccinations available in addition to all of the prescribed childhood immunizations.
