Together, Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano, the Yonkers Kiwanis Club, the City of Yonkers and Yonkers Board of Education will highlight and honor three Yonkers Public Schools‘ teachers for their diligence and dedication to teaching. The 2024 Teachers of the Year Award will recognize selected teachers representing elementary, middle, and high school.
Founded in 1956, the Teacher of the Year Award rewards teachers for their selfless efforts and excellence in education. The Yonkers Kiwanis Club and Trustees of the Board of Education (BOE) constitute the committee.
Eligibility
To be eligible as Teacher of the Year, nominees must have at least five years of experience in Yonkers Public Schools and demonstrate the skills of an innovative, involved, and intrinsic figure in the education system. Educators must embody the head, heart, and hands of teaching. All nominated teachers must complete and submit an application form by April 8, 2024.
The Teacher of the Year award is a shining beacon of recognition for the extraordinary educators who dedicate their lives to enlightening and empowering our students. It reflects the collective spirit of our community, a spirit that values education and the transformative impact it has on young minds. Every nomination is a story of passion, perseverance, and the profound influence a teacher can have. We are incredibly proud to honor the individuals who are not just teachers but also mentors, guides, and pillars of our community. They represent the best of us, embodying the values and aspirations we hold dear. Their unique contributions, whether in a bustling classroom or a quiet moment of guidance, are invaluable assets to our society. Selection Process
The Board of Education Personnel Department thoroughly assesses and authenticates the qualifications of a teacher. Subsequently, the Kiwanis Club receives the nominee’s application. The Kiwanis Club then determines the outstanding applications, and the BOE Trustees select the finalists from each level.
Students, parents, teachers, and administrators can submit their nominations online at Teachers of the Year between today and March 1, 2024, at 5 PM. The recipients of the Teachers of the Year awards will be announced on May 8, 2024.
