Spotlight Award Presented to Rosemarie Ann Siragusa School

The Rosemarie Ann Siragusa School was acknowledged by Mayor Mike Spano and the City of Yonkers for its innovative approach to learning.

Joined by Yonkers Board of Education President Rev. Steve Lopez and Superintendent of Schools Dr. Edwin M. Quezada, Mayor Spano presented Principal Anthony Cioffi with a Spotlight Award. The award is given to a Yonkers Public School that demonstrates significant academic achievement, community support, and extracurricular success.

The Rosemarie Ann Siragusa School is being honored for its work in developing advanced learning skills for sixth-grade students through project-based assignments and research. These competencies are noted for preparing young students for high-school, college, and their later careers.

At the ceremony, Mayor Spano praised the school’s commitment to children’s learning and development.

The Rosemarie Ann Siragusa School continues to place a strong focus on the overall quality of education for our students by providing a strong emphasis on developing research skills,” said Mayor Spano.

“Congratulations goes to Principal Anthony Cioffi and the entire team of administrators, teachers and staff for their efforts to help every child learn more about the world and enhance their skills in critical thinking and problem-solving while providing career and college guidance.”

Project-Based Learning Curriculum

The project- and research-based learning curriculum at The Rosemarie Ann Siragusa School enables students to:

  • Explore various resources and evaluate evidence to find reliable sources
  • Learn to consolidate information and report on their findings
  • Discover their creativity and engage their curiosity in subjects that interest them
  • Empower them to identify their talents, interests, and goals for higher education
  • Encourage them to learn more about different career paths and career options

Dr. Quezada recognized the work of The Rosemarie Ann Siragusa School to embrace each student’s potential.

Principal Cioffi, the teachers and staff do magnificent work to engage the entire school community around the social-emotional and academic growth of each student,” stated Dr. Quezada. “The Siragusa team embraces their students and families with the mantra that school is an extension of the home, and it works. Student achievement and attendance are above the District average.”

Rev. Lopez praised the school’s outstanding academic results.

When you enter the Siragusa School you always feel welcomed,” said Rev. Lopez. “That same feeling is evident in the classrooms. Siragusa students enjoy coming to school and that translates into academic achievement.”

Previous winners of the Yonkers Spotlight Award include Roosevelt High School—Early College Studies, and PEARLS Hawthorne School.
