Yonkers Riverfest Postponed: A Celebration on Hold

The Yonkers Riverfest, an annual extravaganza that has become a beloved tradition in the Hudson Valley, is a momentous occasion that brings together the community in celebration of music, food, arts, and culture. However, this year, the festivities scheduled to rock the waterfront have hit a temporary snag. The Yonkers Downtown BID officially announced they postponed the highly anticipated event.

Plan “A”

The Yonkers Downtown BID originally promised an electrifying Riverfest lineup that would dazzle attendees on Saturday September 23rd. This year’s festival was poised to offer an unforgettable experience. In the plans were three stages of live music, a Kids Zone, an Art Stop Area, and a Wellness Area. Not to mention a mouthwatering array of food vendors.

Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano praised the event, calling it a “time-honored tradition” that celebrates the city’s diverse and beautiful waterfront.

Music lovers were eager to partake in the diverse range of talent that Riverfest traditionally showcases. Both local and national acts spanning various genres featured in this year’s lineup. These bands included, Spanglish Fly, Lulada Club, and Leon & The Peoples.

Apart from the musical acts, this year introduced a few exciting novelties. Top among these included the first ever Westchester County Bacon, Egg, and Cheese Cook-Off Competition. Hosts from @snacktimeny and @its_hector_the_connector were set to lead five contestants in a culinary showdown. Four esteemed judges would determine who could craft the best Bacon, Egg, and Cheese sandwich.

Riverfest garnered significant support from sponsors, with the City of Yonkers, Yonkers IDA, and Yonkers EDC as leading supporters. Other notable sponsors included Great Point Studios, Arts Westchester, Domino Sugar, Westchester County Board of Legislatures, among many others.

What now?

However, a rainy forecast for Saturday led the host to announce its postponement on Thursday September 21st. In posts across social media, the Downtown BID apologized for the inconvenience, promising more information soon.
