Congressional Art Competition Welcomes Talented Students from Yonkers

Artistic expression is necessary for the human spirit as it provides perspective, joy, and understanding. From musical composition on a beloved instrument to a painter’s delicate brush on a canvas, art nourishes and enriches our existence in a multitude of ways. And now, young artists again have the chance to share these expressions through the annual Congressional Art Competition.

Celebrating Art at the Capitol

The Congressional Art Competition, otherwise known as the Art Discovery Contest, provides a special opportunity to showcase artistic talent of the highest caliber amongst high school students from across the nation. Each spring, this art competition is sponsored by the members of the U.S. House of Representatives. Over 650,000 students thus far have participated since its inception in 1982.

Jamaal Bowman, our Congressional Representative for the 16th district, is hosting a contest to include 9th through 12th grade high school students in Yonkers and throughout the greater district. The winning student will have their artwork displayed in the U.S. Capitol for 11 months. They also may have the opportunity to travel to the Washington D.C. for the Congressional Art Reception.

Second and third-place winners will have their artwork framed and displayed within Representative Bowman’s offices both in D.C. and White Plains.
