Battle of the Boroughs Yonkers Edition: Break Dancing Event

Yonkers, the birthplace of groundbreaking initiatives, is proud to announce the Battle of the Boroughs Yonkers Edition: Break Dancing Event, set to take place on March 2, 2024, at Montessori 27. This event organized by London Reyes, President of the iconic New York City Breakers, marks a significant milestone as Yonkers becomes the first public school district in the nation to pioneer a break-dancing league.

Break dancing has surged to prominence as an Olympic sport, with its debut slated for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. Spearheading this movement is none other than the legendary N.Y.C. Breakers, renowned for their innovation and dedication to the art form. In a historic moment documented back in 1983, the N.Y.C. Breakers wrote that it was their dream to have break-dancing become an Olympic Sport and challenged the US Gymnastics team to a competition, igniting the idea that break-dancing should be recognized on the Olympic stage.

The Battle of the Boroughs Yonkers Edition promises to be an electrifying showcase of talent, skill, and creativity. Participants from across Yonkers and beyond will converge to compete in a spirited contest that celebrates the rich cultural heritage and athletic prowess of break dancing.

In addition to the thrilling competitions, the event will feature a special performance by Turbo B, formerly of the music group Snap!, renowned for his iconic track “I Got the Power,” which has become an anthem of empowerment within the dance community. The event will feature generous cash prizes totaling $3,000, adding an extra layer of excitement and motivation for the participants.

Members of the media are cordially invited to witness this groundbreaking event and capture the excitement firsthand. Join us as we commemorate Yonkers’ pivotal role in shaping the future of break dancing and ushering in a new era of athletic excellence.
